Otago Regional Policy Statement and climate Strategy Alignment

Abstract
This research analysed the depth of alignment between the Otago Regional Council (ORC) Climate Strategy 2024 and the 2019 and 2021 Otago Regional Policy Statements. Legislative direction from the Regional Policy Statements was compared against ORC’s 10-year goals from the Climate Strategy. The project explored areas of alignment and misalignment, investigating the reasoning for these. Its aim was to help inform the efforts of the Strategy Team towards supporting ORC to better align all its functions towards the Strategic Directions 2024-2034. Primarily towards a vision that, “our environment and communities are healthy and connected ki uta ki tai (from the mountains to the sea).”
